Several computers in one laboratory, and branches in different places, working together as one laboratory. Each computer carries its own licence, and the link between them carries no fee.

Reception and patients

Registering the patient the way your reception already works.

Each laboratory chooses in Settings whether reception enters a date of birth or an age in years, months or days.
When an age is entered, the date of birth is worked out and shown before saving, and ages are always computed from the stored birth date.
Staff see each patient's timeline, from registration through samples, results and report versions.

Samples, barcodes and printing

Every tube is labelled and followed, and once a printer is set, its label prints without a print dialog.

Each sample moves through registration, collection, receipt and processing to the verified result, and each step is recorded as staff perform it.
Rejecting a sample requires a reason, and its recollection is created automatically.
You design your sample labels: the size, the barcode dimensions and which fields appear.
Once a printer is set for the job, labels, receipts and reports print with one click and no print dialog. If no printer is available, the normal print dialog opens instead.
A built-in print gateway starts with the program on Windows, with nothing extra to install. It finds the printers installed in Windows, skips PDF and XPS virtual printers, and notices new printers while running.
USB barcode scanners of the keyboard type work on every screen without setup.

Results, analyzers and the test catalogue

The result moves from the analyzer to the patient's file without being typed again.

Analyzer integration is included, with no fee per analyzer and no limit on how many you register.
Results are read from analyzers cabled to the computer's RS-232 serial port, in ASTM (E1381, checksummed frames) or HL7 v2. The program also includes a network (TCP) listener for analyzers that send HL7 or delimited text.
A new analyzer is registered on one setup form: identity, communication settings and test mapping. A Test connection button tells you what to fix, such as a missing or busy COM port.
A catalogue of 1,300 tests ships with the program, 202 of them enabled at installation, and the laboratory enables whichever of the rest it wants. For 112 tests in the catalogue the reference interval changes with the patient's sex or age, and the report picks the one that matches.
The laboratory's administrator adds tests and panels and edits reference intervals.

Reports that carry your laboratory's identity

The program prints the whole report itself, so no pre-printed paper is needed.

Your logo, laboratory name, contact details and address in the header. An administrator can change the report title, logo, colours and layout at any time.
Three signature places on every report: the laboratory technician, the clinical pathologist and an authorised signatory, each with an uploaded signature image or a blank line to sign by hand.
When your laboratory has an address patients can reach, each final report carries a QR code that opens your laboratory's own copy of it, so a printed copy can be checked. An amended report's code no longer verifies.
On single-test reports and on chemistry, drug-monitoring and allergy panels, the report can show a colour-coded Low / Normal / High bar marking where the flagged result falls in its reference interval.
When the patient has earlier results for the same test, the report can list them with their dates, and on a single-test report draw a trend chart of up to ten previous values.
An interpretive note is printed with the results: your laboratory's own wording for a low or high result, or an interpretation it has written and approved, and otherwise a standard note based on the result's flag.
Every report can be downloaded as a PDF file.

Microbiology

38 common organisms and 95 antibiotics in 26 drug classes are installed with the program.
Each organism and antibiotic result is recorded as S, I or R with an optional MIC, and printed in a sensitivity table on the report.
The technologist enters the S/I/R category, because no breakpoint tables are included.

Semen analysis report

A specialised report beside the routine ones.

A detailed, multi-page semen analysis report, with charts drawn from the values entered.
Microscope images the laboratory attaches are printed in the report. The program does not analyse them.

Quality control and accreditation work

Tools that support accreditation work in the style of ISO 15189.

Westgard quality-control rules, and external quality assessment scored by z-score.
Corrective and preventive action (CAPA) and staff-competency records, lot tracking, and audited result amendment.
An accreditation-readiness overview.
A tamper-evident audit trail that can be searched and exported, and read-back of critical results.
The program is not ISO 15189 certified, and it does not certify a laboratory.

Reagents and inventory

Know what you hold before it runs out.

Reagents and consumables are tracked by lot and expiry date.
Each test's consumables are deducted automatically when its result is verified.
Stock-outs are forecast before they happen.
With one click, a draft purchase order is prepared for each supplier for everything running low, and staff review and approve it.

Accounts, payers and receipts

The patient's account and the payer's in one place.

Payer accounts and contracts, with their coverage, co-payment and pre-authorisation rules.
Insurance claim packages are prepared, checked and tracked. Sending them electronically needs a connection to that payer to be set up.
A management dashboard follows daily, weekly and monthly revenue against one monthly target, alongside billing analysis.
The results QR code is left off the receipt while any of the patient's share is unpaid. For insured patients only the patient's own share counts, not the insurer's. Once it is paid in full, the QR appears, when the laboratory has an address a patient's phone can reach.
Price lists are imported from CSV files using Clarus templates.
Issuing the Egyptian electronic receipt and e-invoice, and submitting them to the Egyptian Tax Authority.

Your laboratory's website, and results by QR

A website under your laboratory's name, and a report the patient reads from anywhere.

An activated licence includes one laboratory website, free for its first year, at <name>.claruslis.com, hosted on the Clarus server. You reserve the name and publish from inside the program; publishing needs an internet connection and a licence that is still running.
The site is in Arabic (right to left) and English, and carries your laboratory's own name, logo and colours, never the Clarus logo.
A patient scans the QR code on a released report and reads it from anywhere. It opens on your laboratory's address, under its name and colours, encrypted end to end so that the hosting server cannot read it.
No patient account and no online booking: one QR link for each report.

About the laboratory website

Moving from your previous program (Access or SQL Server)

Your data and your test names come with you.

The laboratory moves its data itself, from a screen inside Clarus. For the previous program named on our migration page, it reads that program's Access (.mdb) and SQL Server files directly, with neither Access nor SQL Server installed.
It brings across patients, visits, requested tests and their results, your test catalogue with its names, your reference intervals and your priced packages, and shows the counts before anything is written.
In development tests on nineteen real laboratory files, an import ran at about ten seconds per megabyte. Access 2007 and later (.accdb) files are not supported.
Records held in CSV or Excel (.xlsx) files from other programs are brought across with the Clarus team's help.

How to move your laboratory

Licence, trial and updates

You buy it once, and its updates carry no charge.

A perpetual licence for this computer: it is signed with no expiry date, never times out, and stays bound to the computer it was activated on.
Moving to a new computer: press "Move this licence to another computer" on the old one and read us the code it shows, and we release your same serial for the new computer.
With internet, the program checks for updates at start-up and every six hours, and shows the signed description of the update. Two clicks, one to download and prepare it and one to install it, update the program in place with a rollback copy and no reinstall.
You can also check by hand: Administration, then Advanced, then License & Updates, then Check for updates.
Updates carry no charge, for life.
One edition with no feature tiers: microbiology, blood bank, pathology, molecular, inventory, quality control and device integration are switched on in every copy.
The 14-day trial runs the same edition as a paid copy, with the same modules and unlimited user accounts. After day 14 it becomes read-only until it is activated, and moving the licence and the laboratory website need an activated copy.

Backup

Your data stays on your laboratory's computer, and so does its daily copy.

A backup is taken automatically every day.
Each backup is verified after it is taken.
You can run a real restore test: the backup is restored into a separate temporary database, what comes back is counted against the counts recorded when it was taken, and your working data is not touched.
Name a folder on a second disk or a USB drive, and each backup is copied there automatically. If the drive is not attached, the Backup screen shows that no second copy is being made.
The Backup screen shows how long ago the last backup was taken against its one-day target, and whether a restore has been rehearsed from it.

FHIR and API

For connecting Clarus to other systems.

An HL7 FHIR R4 (4.0.1) interface serves Patient, DiagnosticReport and order Bundle resources, and accepts transaction Bundles.
Finalised reports are pushed to rest-hook Subscriptions.
A documented JSON API (OpenAPI), and signed webhook delivery for notifications.
