Clarus LIS follows each histopathology, cytology, FNAC, frozen-section and autopsy case: accessioning, specimens, blocks and slides, the gross and microscopic descriptions and the diagnosis, then the sign-out, with any amendment kept beside what it replaced. It is switched on in every copy.
Register the case against the patient's record, with the clinical history and the specimen's label, site and procedure. The case number is given automatically by case type (S, C, F, FS or A), followed by the year and a sequence.
Add blocks with their cassette label, fixative and tissue summary, then slides with their stain. Each block and slide is numbered from the case number, and the case moves to grossing and then to microscopy by itself.
The gross description, the microscopic description and the diagnosis are recorded in their own fields. Once a diagnosis is saved, the case waits for sign-out.
No case is signed out without a diagnosis. Sign-out records who signed and when, and a case cannot be signed out twice.
Once a case is signed out, the case screen locks its findings, and no specimen, block or slide can be added to it.
Changing a signed-out case needs a documented reason of at least ten characters. The earlier diagnosis is kept beside the new one, together with the microscopic description as it stood and who signed the case out before.
Accessioning, recorded findings, sign-out and every amendment are written to the audit trail.
The case board counts the cases, the ones waiting for sign-out, and those in grossing and in microscopy, and the worklist filters cases by their stage.
